Local MP Darren Chester is among the many people in Lakes Entrance who have successfully navigated the roadworks and streetscape upgrade along the Esplanade to support local traders.

The Carpenter to Myer Street improvements, which include widening the footpath and converting the parallel car parks to angle parking, are expected to be finished before Christmas.

Mr Chester, pictured picking up dinner from a local restaurant recently, said the project team had worked hard to minimise disruptions for nearby businesses.

“We are really beginning to see how the Esplanade will look when this project is completed,” Mr Chester said.

“It will look attractive and welcoming for visitors and will be safer for everyone, particularly for families and older people.

“Now, more than ever before, we need to shop locally to support local jobs as our region recovers from a terrible 12 months.”

Other work still to be done include the installation of solar lighting along the foreshore path between the Bullock Island roundabout and Myer Street and the completion of the boardwalk at the water’s edge from Carpenter Street to beyond the footbridge.

The improvements along the Esplanade are funded in part from a $50 million package secured by Mr Chester to improve safety along the Princes Highway from Sale to the New South Wales border.
