Landcare Australia is inviting nominations for the 2019 State and Territory Landcare Awards to recognise individuals and groups for their outstanding contribution to preserving the Australian landscape.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester is encouraging locals to nominate devoted Gippsland Landcare volunteers to recognise their environmental work.
“There are several award categories to acknowledge and celebrate individuals who have played a significant role in restoring and protecting the environment, as well as groups that have demonstrated leadership and achievement in Landcare-related activities,” Mr Chester said.
“Partnerships could include research organisations, local government, Landcare and environmental groups, farmer groups, schools and youth groups.
“There are also awards to acknowledge integrated land management practices on a farm property that protect soils, water and vegetation, and innovative farming practices that deliver improved natural resource management and farm productivity outcomes.”
Mr Chester said Landcare was this year celebrating its 30-year national anniversary.
“For three decades, Landcare has played a leading role in sustainable agricultural practices, environmental protection, conservation of land and waterways, coastlines and biodiversity,” Mr Chester said.
“In Gippsland, we have many dedicated volunteers who have been leaders in protecting their local environment and I encourage Landcare groups or other individuals to help us acknowledge some of these local champions.”
