LEISURE CENTRE OPENS IN CHURCHILL

June 24, 2011

Monash University students, staff and Churchill residents welcomed the official opening of the $4.8 million Latrobe Leisure Churchill today.

The centre, a collaborative project between Monash University, the Federal Government and Latrobe City Council, now has three multiuse courts, an upgraded gymnasium new change and toilet facilities, and improved reception amenities.

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the new centre would provide a better resource for the Churchill community to participate in sport.

“This project is a drastic improvement of what was previously available for not only Monash students and staff but also local residents,” Mr Chester said.

“Providing high quality facilities is a key to encourage people to get actively involved in sport and exercise.

“Latrobe Leisure Churchill is the perfect example of what can be achieved when Local and Federal Governments work in conjunction with an organisation such as Monash University to improve facilities that benefit the whole community.”
