Work is scheduled to commence next year on building the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the Federal Government would jointly fund the project with Latrobe City Council and the Victorian Government.
The new centre will be built on the corner of Grey and Church Streets to replace Traralgon’s Little Theatre.
Mr Chester said Latrobe City Council was working to finalise the design process within the allocated $30 million budget and he was confident work would commence within the next 12 months.
“The Latrobe Performing Arts Centre will help create local jobs in the hospitality and arts sectors and provide new opportunities for growth in the Latrobe Valley,” Mr Chester said.
“The new centre will also attract more people to our region and provide a state-of-the-art facility for local residents to enjoy, so that shows no longer bypass Traralgon when travelling to Warragul or Sale.
“This project demonstrates the strength of the Latrobe Valley community to work together and achieve its priorities. Full credit to the ‘Get It Built’ committee.
“I look forward to seeing this centre open as soon as possible.”
