Aircraft manufacturing jobs in the Latrobe Valley will be secured with the GippsAero Airvan 10 formally receiving its type certification today from the national air safety regulator.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) today presented the formal certification at GippsAero’s Traralgon manufacturing base. This means the Airvan10 can now go into commercial production and be sold around the world.
Member for Gippsland Darren Chester, who has responsibility for civil aviation safety as the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, said it was a significant milestone.
“It is fantastic news for our community that the Airvan10 will receive its type certification,” he said.
“We’ve already seen the great success of the Airvan8 being sold right throughout the world and used by various commercial, private and law enforcement operators.
“GippsAero is Australia’s only commercial aircraft manufacturer and we are very proud to have them based in Gippsland. I’m excited by the opportunity for there to be more jobs created through the manufacture of this new aircraft.”
The Airvan10 is the first single engine turbo-prop to be type certified by CASA. The certificate was presented today at Latrobe Regional Airport by CASA Stakeholder Engagement Group Manager, Rob Walker.
