Local companies are being encouraged to bid for construction work at the new $3 million hockey field and pavilion in Sale.

Wellington Shire Council has advertised for tenders to construct three components of the new hockey precinct being built at Gippsland Regional Sport Complex: the synthetic playing field, the pavilion and the carpark off Cobains Road.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the Federal Government was providing $600,000 toward the redevelopment.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to become involved in the construction of a new landmark sporting facility in Gippsland,” Mr Chester said.

“The complex will provide state-of-the-art facilities for local hockey players and other sports will be able to use the venue for training and matches.

“Importantly, new and improved facilities like this provide an opportunity to attract more regional events to Gippsland, and bring more people into our towns to support local business.”

Wellington Shire Council Chief Executive Officer David Morcom said the shire was managing the project on behalf of all of the funding partners.

“The pavilion will be 340 square metres and include a kiosk, meeting room, change rooms and social space, plus there will be a large outdoor covered area,” Mr Morcom said.

“The hockey field component will comprise drainage, lighting, fencing, shelters for players and electronic scoreboards. We are also inviting tenders for the construction of a 93-space carpark and a sealed access road.

“We are determined to deliver a high quality sporting facility that will benefit Sale and the wider Gippsland area for years to come.”

The project is jointly funded by the Federal Government ($600,000), the Victorian Government ($650,000), Wellington Shire Council ($750,130), the John Leslie Foundation ($1,000,000), and East Gippsland Hockey Association ($50,000).

Tenders close on September 27. For more information, visit www.wellington.vic.gov.au.
