Outdoor fitness equipment will soon be installed along the Loch Sport foreshore.

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester secured $100,000 as part of the Active Gippsland initiative announced during the recent election campaign.

Mr Chester said the installation of the fitness circuit should begin early next year.

“It has always been a passion of mine to encourage locals to keep active and lead healthy lives,” Mr Chester said.

“Many locals and visitors enjoy exercising around Lake Victoria and this fitness circuit will enhance their exercising experience.

“The circuit will include aerobic and strength and conditioning equipment to cater for a range of abilities and target different muscle groups.”

Mr Chester said that improvements like this will boost visitor experience in Loch Sport and bring more tourists to the region.

“Loch Sport attracts a lot of visitors during the warmer summer months and continued improvements will attract more and more visitors to the region to support local businesses and create more jobs.”

The funding is part of a $280,000 Active Gippsland initiative announced during the election campaign, which includes $100,000 for outdoor fitness equipment along Loch Sport’s foreshore; $30,000 for Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve; $100,000 to reseal the East Gippsland Rail Trail between Bairnsdale and Nicholson; and $50,000 for the first stage of an all-abilities accessible boardwalk along Cunninghame Arm, Lakes Entrance.
