Not-for-profit groups across Gippsland are invited to submit applications for the second round of a Federal Government small-grants program.
Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said round two of the ‘#lovegippsland’ Stronger Community Program (SCP) was now open and he encouraged those who missed out on the first round to apply.
A total of $150,000 will be made available across the Gippsland electorate for small-scale projects that can be matched with dollar-for-dollar or in-kind funding support.
Mr Chester said there was strong interest for round one of the program.
“Successful round one grants will be announced in the coming weeks, but in the meantime I encourage groups who have not yet submitted an expression of interest to do so in round two,” Mr Chester said.
“The SCP fund provides dollar-for-dollar matching grants of between $5000 and $20,000 for projects that provide social benefits and improve community participation.
“That cash or in-kind funding can be provided by any organisation, including private donations, sponsorships, or local or state governments.”
Examples of suitable projects include:
Construction and fit-out of community, health and sports centres, including kitchen upgrades;
- Equipment purchases such as computers, TVs and furniture and fittings;
- Sporting facility upgrades including new scoreboards, seating, new turf, fit-out of change rooms, new canteens, lights, upgraded water systems, gymnasiums etc.
- Streetscapes including skate parks, bike paths, public barbecue areas and recreational facilities; or
- The purchase of equipment for local SES groups.
Mr Chester said the Stronger Communities Program was focussed on helping smaller not-for-profit community groups.
“Many of these groups are run by volunteers or a dedicated committee of management, who have limited time and resources to apply for government grants,” Mr Chester said.
“The #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program is designed to provide a simple application process for groups needing funds for small-scale projects that can provide widespread community benefits.”
