Community groups across Gippsland can access Federal Government grants to purchase equipment and build small infrastructure projects in Gippsland.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said $150,000 has been allocated to upgrade community infrastructure through round five of the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program (SCP).
Mr Chester is calling for Expressions of Interest from local groups to nominate priority projects.
Applications open August 5, 2019 and must be received in Mr Chester’s office by September 2, 2019.
Mr Chester said the program provided a funding stream for hall upgrades, kitchen equipment, changeroom facilities and other smaller infrastructure projects that community groups often found hard to fund.
“Gippsland has been very successful under previous rounds of the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program, with $600,000 shared across local community groups,” Mr Chester said.
“We are looking for projects that make a real difference to the community and provide the most benefits to the community and volunteer groups.
“In previous rounds we’ve seen local halls refurbished, club canteens upgraded and staging and sound systems purchased to assist volunteer and community groups.
“Grants are available between $2,500 and $20,000 for community and sporting clubs to upgrade their facilities and create better opportunities for our region. Applicants must match the funding for the project, cash or in-kind, and works should be completed by June 30, 2020.
“I encourage local groups to visit my website and complete an Expression of Interest form and lodge an application.”
Mr Chester said the Stronger Communities Programme was aimed at funding projects that deliver social benefits as part of the government’s continuing commitment to strengthen communities across Australia.
“Our local communities are the heart of Gippsland and this investment in local projects under the Stronger Communities Programme is about invigorating these communities and ensuring their continued success,” Mr Chester said.
Groups must first lodge an Expression of Interest form and successful applicants will be invited to complete a full submission. Expression of Interest Forms are available from www.darrenchester.com.au and must be lodged by September 2, 2019. Grant guidelines and further details can also be found at www.business.gov.au/scp
