The long wait for improved health services will soon be over for Metung and district residents with construction of the Metung Community Health Medical Centre.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester recently inspected the facility which has been built with the support of a $450,000 Federal Government grant and fundraising by the local community.
Mr Chester met with the community-based steering committee which has been working with Gippsland Lakes Community Health (GLCH) to establish the new centre that will open in April this year.
“The community is to be commended for leading the way and identifying the need for more accessible health services and working together to push the case for support through a range of sources,” Mr Chester said.
“The steering committee has had great support from Gippsland Lakes Community Health and Riviera Properties, as well as working with all levels of government to obtain funding to improve health outcomes for local residents.”
Mr Chester said once the new centre was in full operation, the steering committee would turn its attention to Stage Two of the medical centre.
“The steering committee has indicated to me that it is currently pursuing further funding to enable the Stage Two development of the medical centre,” Mr Chester said.
“The next stage would include a multipurpose room which would benefit the local community.
“I will continue to work closely with the steering committee to support Local, State and Federal Government funding applications for this important development.”
