The new improved Yarram men’s shed was officially opened on Friday– a new shed on the old premises in Bland Street.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester was joined at the opening celebrations by many of the volunteers who have clocked up some 1400 hours fitting out the new shed for the benefit of the local community.

“This is a perfect example of all that’s great about Yarram,” Mr Chester said.

“A local builder, Barrie O’Loughlin, has built the shed at a discounted price, local businesses have donated the materials at discounted or cost-price, and a group of volunteers have donated their time and skills to fit out the shed,” Mr Chester said.

“This is a community that has pulled together and got the job done.”

Mr Chester said the Yarram men’s shed was a headquarters for men to network, socialise and learn new skills.

“The Yarram men’s shed celebrated its 10 year anniversary last year and has been an important program for men of all ages to engage and participate in their community,” Mr Chester said.

“The new shed makes the experience even more enjoyable and will assist Yarram men’s shed to continue to grow and encourage new members to join the program.”
