A program that allows older Australians and young people with disability to stay supported in their homes for longer will get a major funding boost from the Federal Government.

Federal Member for Gippsland said about $822,000 in funding would be spread across 24 Home and Community Care (HACC) services between Morwell and Mallacoota.

“This is part of an additional $21.3 million for HACC in Victoria, which will deliver an extra 200,000 hours of care and support in the home,” Mr Chester said.

“Some of the new and expanded services being funded across Gippsland include $50,000 in one-off funding for minor capital works for services run by Bairnsdale Regional Health Service, Central Gippsland Health Service, Gippsland Lakes Community Health, Latrobe Community Health Service and Latrobe City Council.

“There is also a mix of one-off and recurrent funding for smaller bush-nursing centres and other support services providers across the region.”

HACC services provide practical assistance, including domestic assistance, personal care, property maintenance, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and respite.

Mr Chester said the HACC programme provided support to more than 300,000 older Victorians, younger people with disability and their carers.

“The Australian and Victorian Governments have provided $681 million in funding for HACC in Victoria over the past financial year,” Mr Chester said.

“This additional funding is providing vital support for many older Australians and younger people with disability in Gippsland to live independently at home and stay connected to friends and family.”
