Gippsland Rotary Centenary House has received a government grant to purchase more furniture to support patients having treatment at Gippsland Cancer Care Centre.

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester announced $5,000 to purchase electronic recliner chairs, blinds and dining chairs for patients and their families.

“Gippsland Rotary Centenary House is a community-owned accommodation facility that supports cancer patients from across the Gippsland region,” Mr Chester said.

“The House provides patients and their families a low-cost, supported and specialised accommodation option while patients receive daily outpatient radiotherapy.

“Patients often have issues with pain management, mental health, diet intake and sleeping patterns during their treatment.

“Rotary Centenary House is a vital facility for our region and I have met many local families who have benefitted from the service provided by the volunteer board of management.”

Operations Manager Carol Crewe said the equipment purchased with this grant would assist Centenary House to provide a comfortable environment for patients undergoing treatment for cancer.

“We are appreciative of the ongoing support of Darren who has been a longstanding advocate for Gippsland Rotary Centenary House,” she said.

The funding has been provided from the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program.
