Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester says a new “#lovegippsland” Stronger Communities Programme will deliver $300,000 over two years to fund small capital projects that deliver social benefits.
Gippsland community and sporting groups will have access to the new fund to improve facilities.
“This is an exciting opportunity for local communities to work with me to identify potential projects which will contribute to our community’s future,” Mr Chester said.
“I will be establishing a community consultation committee to identify projects that are a priority and to ensure this funding delivers the best possible outcomes for our community.
“Following community consultation, I will invite incorporated not-for-profit and local government organisations to apply for funding.
“Identified applicants can apply for funding of at least $5000 and up to a maximum of $20,000 and must provide matching cash or in-kind funding, on at least a dollar for dollar basis.”
Mr Chester has encouraged small not-for-profit groups to register an Expression of Interest on his website www.darrenchester.com or by contacting his office, 1300 131 785 and obtaining an application pack.
The first stage of the application process would require only basic details of the project, which would then be referred to the independent community consultation committee for consideration.
Projects recommended for funding by the independent panel will be assessed against the Programme Guidelines by the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development to ensure that approved projects represent value for money.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to read the Stronger Communities Programme, guidelines and the Frequently Asked Questions which are available on the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development’s website www.infrastructure.gov.au/SCP
Expressions of Interest must be submitted by Mr Chester’s office by the close of business (5pm) on September 11, 2015.
CAPTION: Community groups and sporting clubs, including surf lifesaving clubs, will be eligible to apply for the new Stronger Communities Program, Member for Gippsland Darren Chester (pictured) has announced.
