Toongabbie men’s shed has received Federal Government funding to purchase new tools and equipment.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the committee had also undertaken some renovations to the shed including repainting.
“Men’s sheds are an important resource in communities across Gippsland like Toongabbie, as they provide men with support and the opportunity to learn new skills,” Mr Chester said.
“The benefits of men’s sheds to the community are widely acknowledged.
“The Toongabbie men’s shed has been able to purchase a bandsaw, grinders and other equipment required for community building projects.
“It will also use the funding to run a series of four community health seminars focussed on diabetes and healthy cooking, which will provide long term benefits for those who attend.”
Mr Chester said the Federal Government was providing $5.1 million over three years to the National Men’s Sheds program.
“Men are talking about their health more and more and men’s sheds provide a safe and friendly environment for them to do so.
Vice President Graham Berrett said the Toongabbie Men’s Shed would soon be announcing dates for the healthy cooking seminars “to put our new oven and refrigerator purchased with the grant money to good use”.
“We have also purchased a new bandsaw grinder and lifting equipment with the grant and this should help to encourage new members to join,” Mr Berrett said.
“Small grants like this make a huge difference in a small community like ours. We very much appreciate the Federal Government involvement.
“We would like to invite any potential new members to come along. We meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons.”
