The Heyfield Youth Play Precinct was officially opened today by Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester and Wellington Shire Council Mayor Garry Stephens.
Mr Chester said the $250,000 project was a testament to the Heyfield community which advocated for the new facilities, and the good working relationship between Wellington Shire and his office.
“This is a real partnership between local and federal government. It is an exciting day for the Heyfield community as they see their hard work come to fruition,” Mr Chester said.
“The upgraded skate park and new pump track provide local families and visitors with a safe place they can have fun and socialise while keeping active.
“The pump track is the first of its kind in Wellington Shire and caters to a range of wheeled sports including scooters, skateboards and bikes.
“Projects that improve local infrastructure but also keep our community active are fantastic investments in our region and something I will continue to strongly advocate for.”
Mr Chester secured funding for the pump track as part of a $1.1 million investment in the Wellington Shire as part of the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program.
“Projects like this generate much-needed economic stimulus by getting Federal Government money into our towns to help complete priority infrastructure projects which support local contractors, suppliers and local jobs,” Mr Chester said.
“We need to continue to improve the liveability and attractiveness of our towns and smaller communities for both residents and visitors – and that’s what recreation areas like this can achieve.”
