The Traralgon West Sporting Complex was officially opened today after the completion of the first floor fit out.

Federal Member for Gippsland, Darren Chester attended the opening and viewed the completed facilities which will cater for over 300 participants each year.

The $420,000 project included $300,000 from the Federal Government’s Community Development Grants Programme and features a multi-purpose space, kitchen and bar, six unisex toilets, a cleaner’s room and storage.

Mr Chester said the facility will provide for multiple user groups throughout the year and improve the game day experience.

“These new facilities will improve the social and functional use of the sporting complex and provide local players with exceptional amenities,” Mr Chester said.

“The sporting complex is used year round by a range of clubs such as Traralgon West Cricket Club, West End Junior Football Club and local schools who will now be able to host functions and provide for the wider community.

“The bottom level of the pavilion has been well used since its completion and the additional space will be of great benefit to all users.”

Mr Chester said as more of the community become involved in local sports, there is an ever-growing need for modern local facilities.

“It is essential that we provide our local sports clubs and user groups with facilities that are fit for purpose to encourage more people to get involved at the club,” Mr Chester said.

“Community sporting groups are a vital part of our society and create not only a place to keep fit and stay active but to socialise and meet new people.

“I look forward to seeing the facilities used and the benefits it will bring to the community.”

The Federal Government previously provided $438,000 towards the construction of the pavilion and fit out of the bottom level.
