PETAL PIG RAISING MONEY FROM MORWELL TO CANBERRA

May 30, 2013

Morwell Neighbourhood House mascot and gold coin donation crusader, Petal Pig has made her maiden voyage to Canberra with The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.

Petal is an initiative of the Morwell Neighbourhood House aimed at promoting the importance of gold coin donations to the neighbourhood house network and Mr Chester is supporting their efforts.

Gold coin donations help provide the smaller items needed to run the neighbourhood houses for visitors such as tea, coffee, biscuits and printing paper.

Mr Chester said local neighbourhood houses provided a valuable service to the community on very limited budgets.

“Neighbourhood houses play a vital role in community engagement through social, recreational and educational activities for a broad range of local residents,” Mr Chester said.

“They are always fundraising so that they can continue to provide services to the community and any financial support goes a long way.

“The Morwell Neighbourhood House offers services ranging from internet access to a lawn mower bank in additional to educational classes to improve computer literacy and arts and craft workshops.”

Morwell Neighbourhood House Co-ordinator Tracie Lund said Petal Pig would continue visiting a range of iconic sites to help raise funds for the facility.

“Petal Pig is always on the road making new friends, promoting Morwell Neighbourhood House and collecting gold coin donations,” Mrs Lund said.

“It was great that Darren could take her to Canberra and she has also been featured with acclaimed Australian film and television director Simon Wincer.

“A gold coin donation may not seem like much, but it all counts towards running our great facility and we appreciate every dollar that people are able to give.”
