Upgrades to improve drainage and road surface are underway in Pearson and Simpson Streets, Sale.
Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the Federal Government had provided $700,000 toward a joint project improving Pearson Street, between Fitzroy Street and Raglan Street; and in Simpson Street, between Reeve Street and Desailly Street.
“I am pleased to see a local East Gippsland company, Cranes Asphalting and Bitumen Sealing, has been awarded the tender for the improvement works in Pearson and Simpson Streets,” Mr Chester said.
“Works include the installation of kerb and channel, stormwater drainage including pits and pipes and a sealed pavement.
“The project is being jointly funded by the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery program and the property owners themselves, who are contributing via a Special Street Construction Scheme.”
Wellington Shire Council will receive $1.4 million from the Federal Government this year under the Roads to Recovery program, and an additional $12 million in Financial Assistance Grants that can be spent on local roads and other priorities.
These programs provide funding directly to local government so that councillors can make sure the priority projects from each community are the ones that get funded.
Wellington Shire Councillor Ian Bye said it was fantastic to see works commencing in Pearson and Simpson Streets in Sale.
“Council is delighted to receive funding from the Federal Government to assist us to deliver essential work on our local roads across the Shire.”
