A new toilet block at Rosedale Speedway will increase patronage and help the facility attract more events to the town.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has announced a $10,000 grant from the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program to assist the project.
“The reserve is home to the Rosedale Speedway, Rosedale and District Adult Horse Riding Club and Rosedale and District Pony Club, who will all appreciate new improved facilities,” Mr Chester said.
Rosedale Speedway Vice-President Jason Campbell said construction of the new toilet block would begin soon.
“The new toilet block will be built on the same site as the current block. There’ll be more toilets, plus showers and there’ll be facilities for people with a disability,” Mr Campbell said.
“On a race night, we get between 1400 and 1600 people to the raceway, so the current toilets are clearly insufficient for such a big crowd.
“We’re now hoping to apply to host national speedway titles, which is something we haven’t been able to do without having a modern amenities block.”
The $78,000 project is jointly supported by the Rosedale Speedway, Rosedale and District Adult Horse Riding Club, Rosedale and District Pony Club, Rosedale Recreation Reserve and Wellington Shire Council.
Mr Chester said groups across Gippsland would share in $300,000 over two years under the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program.
“Local groups can receive between $5000 and $20,000 to fund small capital projects that improve local community participation and contribute to vibrant communities,” Mr Chester said.
