The tender for the Rosedale Streetscape project has been officially awarded to Fowlers Asphalting Pty Ltd after Wellington Shire Council gave the go ahead at its Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 5 September.

Approximately $900,000 will be spent on rejuvenating the main shopping area on both the North and South sides of Prince Street, between Lyons Street and the west side of Hood Street.

The works involve the removal and replacement of existing kerb and channel, concrete footpaths, minor drainage modifications and associated works including new disabled parking bays and disabled access to bus stops.

The streetscape works forms part of the $1.5 million Rosedale Revitalisation project, that includes $1 million from the Federal Government to revitalise the Rosedale township and upgrade the Willow Park Campground.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said: “Rosedale is ideally placed to capitalise on increased tourist numbers in Gippsland.

“We want to encourage visitors to stop and enjoy everything Rosedale has to offer. People who stay overnight at Willow Park spend money in the town, which supports local jobs.

“Rosedale is an obvious location to break a long drive and these upgrades will make sure the town and its small businesses benefit from that passing traffic.”

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Carolyn Crossley is delighted that the works will be getting underway soon. She said: “A more attractive main street is very uplifting and promotes a more active commercial centre, it can also encourage new business and newcomers to the area. We are also working closely with VicRoads who are planning a future upgrade to the Princes Highway roundabout.”

Council has consulted with the Rosedale Chamber of Commerce and the Rosedale Community Reference Group throughout the development of the Rosedale streetscape project.

Works are due to commence in October and will take approximately four months to complete.

In addition to the $1.5 million Rosedale Revitalisation project, the Federal Government has allocated a further $1 million to upgrade the Princes Highway roundabout in Rosedale under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.
