The McNairn Road pedestrian crossing will be upgraded thanks to Federal Government funding.

Member for Gippsland Darren Chester (pictured) said he had been working with Latrobe City Council and secured $900,000 for the works through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.

“The crossing is currently not safe for pedestrians and is putting lives at risk,” Mr Chester said.

“The community has been seeking this upgrade for several years and I’m pleased the Federal Government is working in partnership with the Council to deliver such a critical project.

“Once complete pedestrians will be able to utilise the existing walking paths along McNairn Road and not have to make risky decisions around oncoming traffic and trains.”

Latrobe City Council will administer the project.
