SALUTING THEIR SERVICE AT EASTWOOD AGED CARE
October 14, 2011
Eastwood Community Aged Care will receive $2000 to honour residents who have served in the armed forces and war widows.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the funding would be provided by the Federal Government’s Saluting Their Service program which helps communities to undertake projects that commemorate veterans from the area who served in wars and conflicts.
Mr Chester said the funding will enable two commemoration projects to be established at Eastwood Community Aged Care which is due for completion next month.
An honour board listing the names of residents who have served in the armed forces and war widows will be installed along with a flag pole for use on days of commemoration and funeral services.
“These projects will pay tribute to Eastwood Community Aged Care residents who participated in national service and war widows,” Mr Chester said.
“Our servicemen and women helped shape our great nation and through commemoration projects we can ensure that their efforts are on display for future generations.”
Mr Chester encouraged local community and ex-service organisations interested in applying for funding to visit www.dva.gov.au/grants or to contact their nearest DVA office on 1800 555 254.
