COMMUNITY JOINS IN CUNNINGHAME ARM CLEAN-UP

November 26, 2012

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has thanked Lakes Entrance residents for supporting a Community Action Day which resulted in a large amount of rubbish and debris being removed from Cunninghame Arm.

A total of 25 volunteers joined in the clean-up on Sunday with 10 wheelie bins of rubbish collected.

“On the one hand it’s disappointing that there was so much rubbish on the foreshore but on the other hand, it’s great to have so many people willing to help clean up,” Mr Chester said.

“In addition to drink bottle containers, there was a lot of household rubbish, plastic bags and netting debris from the fishing industry that had washed up on the tide.

“I would like to thank everyone for assisting on the day and helping to make our lake cleaner.”

Volunteers from the surf lifesaving club, Rotary and other community organisations supported the event which was sponsored by local businesses.

“Tambo Waste supplied the bins, Esso provided gloves for our volunteers and Skipper Pete from the Sea Safari was fantastic: dropping off passengers and collecting rubbish along the foreshore,” Mr Chester said.

“It was a real team effort and a credit to everyone who was involved.”
