A 95th birthday is a remarkable milestone, and Shirley Boulton marked hers in memorable fashion this week with a special trishaw ride around Lake Guthridge thanks to Cycling Without Age Gippsland.
The volunteer-run charity was delighted to help Shirley celebrate her birthday, enjoying fresh air, scenic lake views and plenty of smiles before the rain rolled in later in the afternoon.
Shirley was joined by fellow residents from the McDonald Wing in Maffra, who travelled to Sale to take part in their very first Cycling Without Age Gippsland outing.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester and charity Chair congratulated Shirley on her milestone birthday and praised the volunteers who make the rides possible.
“Reaching 95 years is an incredible achievement, and it’s wonderful to see Shirley celebrating in such a joyful and meaningful way,” Mr Chester said.
“Cycling Without Age Gippsland continues to bring smiles to faces across our region, helping older residents stay connected to their community and enjoy special moments like this.
“I congratulate the volunteers and the team at McDonald Wing for making the day such a success.”
Cycling Without Age Gippsland provides free trishaw rides for older people and those with limited mobility, helping them reconnect with their community and experience the simple joy of feeling the wind in their hair.
The charity is continuing to expand its regular ride program across Gippsland as demand grows.
