Motorists on the Princes Highway East between Flynn and Rosedale will enjoy a smoother journey as they are switched onto a new section of road near Rosedale.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport and Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the traffic switch was a major step in the $260 million duplication of the Princes Highway East between Traralgon and Sale that will see almost 30 of the 43 kilometres completed by the end of 2019.

“This project is providing improved safety for local and through traffic while reducing travel times and improving freight efficiency. It is also providing for safer access to adjacent businesses and properties and improved facilities for pedestrians and cyclists,” Mr Chester said.

“The 8.3 kilometre section from Flynn to Rosedale is the longest in the overall project.

“Works on the section include constructing four new bridges, including two over Flynn’s Creek and two over Blind Joes Creek, along with 5 kilometres of new traffic lanes.”

Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan said that by switching traffic onto the new section of road, works could continue on the existing section of highway.

“It’s fantastic to see works progressing well on this project of national significance. A joint investment of $260 million will see nine sections of the highway upgraded,” Mr Donnellan said.

“While the traffic is being switched onto the new section of road there will be some minor delays as traffic is redirected at Cricket Street.

“With speed limit reductions and traffic controls  in place and an increased number of workers and machinery will be in the area,  I urge motorists to be patient.”

The Australian Government is providing $210 million and the Victorian Government $50 million to duplicate the Princes Highway East between Traralgon and Sale. Construction from Flynn to Rosedale is expected to be completed in late 2016.
