ST MARY’S STUDENTS SPEAK TO CHESTER

September 17, 2010

Grade 6 students at St Mary’s Primary School had the unexpected opportunity to ask questions of Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester during their recent Italian themed lunch.

The students were gathered at Café Rossi for a three-course lunch as part of their Italian studies when one of their teachers spied Mr Chester in Raymond Street and invited him to talk to the class.

The impromptu gathering gave students a chance to ask questions about life in politics and gain a better understanding of how legislation is passed.

“I find that students often ask the toughest questions of all,” Mr Chester said.

“The students wanted to know why I got involved in politics in the first place and what I was working on that could help Gippsland in the future.

“They also had lots of their own ideas and I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple of them end up running for Parliament when they finish school.”
