No-one has made a greater contribution to the Gippsland sporting community over the past 50 years than Kevin Hogan.

An elite sportsman as a young man, Hoges was a journalist, photographer and broadcaster with a passion for all sports, but particularly the Sale Football Netball Club.

My earliest memories of Hoges were as a Sale junior footballer at the Palmerston St Oval with Kevin set up on the grandstand wing, taking the photos that would fill the sports pages of the Gippsland Times. His unmistakable voice became a mainstay of local radio and sporting award nights.

When I joined the Gippsland Times as a cadet journalist in 1986, you couldn’t have found a more generous or humble workmate.

Kevin Hogan was a gentleman who was generous with his time, always up for a chat and keen to encourage young Gippslanders to achieve their best in their chosen sport or profession.

He will be sadly missed by his own family and the broader sporting family of Gippsland.

We are all poorer for Kevin’s passing but much richer for having shared time with a great Gippslander.

Vale Kevin Hogan.
