Tambo Valley residents will have access to improved health services after confirmation that the Swifts Creek Bush Nursing Centre will receive a $650,000 expansion.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester commended the board and staff at the Swifts Creek Bush Nursing Centre for their efforts to obtain funding from the State Government for the expansion.

Mr Chester said the expansion would assist in improving the delivery of health services to local residents.

“The board and staff at the Swifts Creek Bush Nursing Centre have done a terrific job to obtain funding that will enable them to implement plans to expand the current bush nursing facility and improve health services in the Tambo Valley,” Mr Chester said.

“The expansion will improve the current facility which is cramped and doesn’t provide for patient privacy.

“It will also take away some of the burden placed on the Omeo District Hospital.

Mr Chester had previously placed his full support behind the expansion, visiting the facility to discuss plans with the board and staff and seeking the support of State and Federal Health Ministers for the proposal.

“All going well, the project will be completed by the end of next year and I join the local community in looking forward to the new services that will be established,” Mr Chester said.

“I will continue to call on all levels of government to fund projects that will improve the delivery of health services across Gippsland.

“It’s essential that regional communities have access to quality health and medical services.”
