Swifts Creek will soon be home to a new swimming pool as a major redevelopment of the pool and amenities gets underway.
Local MP Darren Chester said the roof replacement works, installation of the pool chlorinators and solar heaters have now been completed.
“Works on the new changerooms and pool refurbishment are due to commence in mid-March to avoid any disturbances to the summer pool season,” Mr Chester said.
“This is an important project for the Swifts Creek community where the local pool is often a gathering place for families in the warmer months.
“The project is also supporting local jobs with Bairnsdale based Eastern Victoria Construction Group undertaking the changeroom and pool upgrades.
“This is one way the Federal Government is improving community infrastructure while keeping locals in jobs and helping to stimulate the economy.
“I look forward to seeing further progress and seeing the lasting benefits this new facility will bring to the wider community.”
The Federal Government provided $310,000 through the Drought Communities Program for the project.
Other projects funded under the program include upgrades to community halls for Cann River, Mallacoota, Lindenow, Johnsonville, Bruthen and Benambra and upgrades to recreation reserves including Swifts Creek, Swan Reach, Bruthen, Buchan, Ensay, Lindenow, Orbost and Sarsfield.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-year. East Gippsland Shire Council is managing the project.
