Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester is urging motorists to take care on the road as they join the many thousands travelling to Gippsland for the Easter break.
Mr Chester said Gippsland was a great place to visit at this time of year, with walking and cycling tracks in addition to the well-known beaches, lakes and national parks.
“There’ll be more caravans and boats on the road than usual and they’ll be sharing it with local traffic,” Mr Chester said.
“Easter is a notoriously busy time on the roads so I encourage everyone to take your time, don’t take risks and break up your journey with regular breaks so you reach your destination safely.
“Easter is an important time on the religious calendar and it’s a great opportunity to spend time together with family and friends.”
Mr Chester said Gippsland was an ideal getaway for people looking for an escape from the city that’s within easy reach.
“There really is something for everyone in our region, whether you want to go to the mountains, lakes, rivers or the coast or spend time exploring our towns.
“I hope many Gippslanders will choose to spend their Easter break in our region and encourage friends and family from elsewhere to join them.
“Remember, when you take a break in Gippsland, you’ re helping to create local jobs.”
