The township of Toongabbie is undergoing a $300,000 revitalisation with money from the Federal Government.

The improvements include upgrades to the town’s footpaths and drainage.

Local MP Darren Chester said the work would make Toongabbie more accessible and attractive.

“The first stage of the project will make the streetscapes more attractive and encourage travellers to stop and explore,” Mr Chester said.

“Upgrading infrastructure, such as paths and drainage, also improves the experience for locals when they are out for a walk.”

Toongabbie Mechanics Institute Hall will also receive attention as part of the revitalisation package.

Mr Chester said the project was just one in the Latrobe Valley funded through the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program.

“This program is helping Latrobe City to undertake local infrastructure projects and other activities to support our communities impacted by drought,” Mr Chester said.

“We can help to boost local employment and procurement by investing in infrastructure improvements that bring lasting benefits.”

Latrobe City has also allocated funding received through the Drought Communities Program to the new Flynn Hall ($804,000), replacing the roof of the clubrooms at Tyers Recreation Reserve ($50,000), and a storage shed at the Yinnar and District Historical Society and Museum ($46,000).
