Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester is encouraging locals to join his #lovegippsland campaign and help provide a boost to the visitor economy over the Easter break.

Mr Chester is calling on locals to post social media photos of their favourite local destinations and to invite friends and family from outside of the region to visit Gippsland throughout the year.

He said the ongoing drought had an impact across the community and a bumper Easter season would provide a welcome boost for small business owners.

“I love Gippsland and I’m determined to promote our region at every opportunity,” Mr Chester said.

“We can all do our little bit to promote Gippsland and grow the visitor economy which is important for local jobs.

“We have so many wonderful natural attractions and great places to visit. From the beaches, lakes and rivers to bush trails, wineries, pubs and restaurants, there’s a lot to enjoy.

“As a community we need to work together to promote our assets and to bring more people into the region to support our local businesses.

“I’m asking local residents to share their love of our region on social media and help promote all the things we love about Gippsland to support the visitor economy.”

Mr Chester said he was working to secure more government investment for local infrastructure to improve the visitor experience.

“We’ve seen a massive investment in better transport and telecommunication infrastructure which is good for our region, but all levels of government need to keep doing more to build facilities on public land that attract visitors and improve the lifestyle of locals,” he said.
