Work on the multi-million dollar safety upgrade of the Esplanade in Lakes Entrance is now focused on a key section between Myer and Carpenter streets.

Local MP Darren Chester said the Esplanade had been transformed over the past few years with a major investment of funds from all levels of government.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done, but the changes are starting to take shape with improved safety for pedestrians, cyclists and car drivers, along with fantastic new exercise options along the foreshore,” Mr Chester said.

“It’s great to see local work crews on site delivering an upgrade which will be enjoyed by locals and visitors for many years to come.”

With a new pedestrian crossing at Carpenter Street now finished, Mr Chester said construction work had shifted to the foreshore side of the Esplanade.

“Much of this section of the Esplanade between the road and the water has been fenced off,” Mr Chester said.

“When the work is complete, there will be new car parking, a shared pathway for pedestrians and cyclists and a boardwalk.”

Mr Chester said widening and landscaping the footpath in front of the shops on the opposite side was another key element of the enhancements.

“Once all of this work is done, safety for pedestrians and cyclists, parking and the functionality of the road will all be improved,” Mr Chester said.

“The appearance of the Esplanade will encourage more visitors to stop and explore the region, and locals to get more active and enjoy our town’s natural beauty.

“These works have caused some disruptions, but I think the result will be worth the wait.”
