Local contractors and businesses, as well as Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel based in Sale will benefit as upgrades to facilities at RAAF Base East Sale are carried out.
Federal Member for Gippsland and Minister for Defence Personnel, Darren Chester said $34 million worth of works were currently underway.
“There are 10 estate works currently being delivered at RAAF Base East Sale with a further eight projects in the planning phase,” Mr Chester said.
“These investments will support local businesses through labourers, contractors and suppliers and boosting the local economy.
“Local businesses have a long and proud relationship of working with Defence and the East Sale RAAF Base is vital to the Gippsland regional economy.”
Mr Chester said the works were focussed on improving the welfare and liveability of personnel living and working at the base.
“These works are an important investment in our defence community at RAAF Base East Sale,” Mr Chester said.
“The works will include a new welfare facility that will provide a much needed hub for the various clubs that are so important to the quality of life on Base.
“Accommodation will also be upgraded to enhance the living experience of students undertaking initial training in the Officer’s Training School.
“The Officer’s Training School is forecasted to expand in numbers in 2021 and beyond and these upgrades, in conjunction with refurbished classrooms and improvements to other amenities, will ensure that increased demand is met.”
The projects will be delivered over the next two to three years.
