Changerooms at Bairnsdale City Oval will be upgraded following a funding announcement by Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.

Mr Chester said Bairnsdale Football Netball Club would receive $6,000 from the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program to upgrade changerooms and improve facilities for female players and officials.

“Bairnsdale City Oval is home to the Bairnsdale Football Netball Club which has teams ranging from under 13 netball to seniors football, as well as the Bairnsdale Junior Football League and Gippsland League youth girls and women’s football teams.

“The oval is also used for finals matches for the East Gippsland Football Netball League and Bairnsdale and District Junior Football League.

“There have been a number of improvements in recent years, including the addition of a function room, offices and lights over the netball court and main oval.

“However the current changerooms and showers do not meet community standards for male and female participants.”

Bairnsdale Football Netball Club committee member Rob Soulsby said the project was in the planning stages and the funding would assist with design and drafting work and structural engineering.

“Improved facilities are important to recruit new players and volunteers and to retain the current player list,” Mr Soulsby said.

“We want our club members and visitors to be comfortable while using the facilities and to generate pride in the club and in their community.

“These upgrades are much-needed and will improve the experience for everyone using Bairnsdale City Oval.”
