More than $1.5 million each year has been allocated to provide 24 additional aged care places in Wellington Shire.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has announced the Federal Government funding would help enable elderly people needing a high level of care to continue living locally.

The money will be provided to Signature Care for the residential care places at its new facility under construction in the Glenhaven Park Estate, just north of Sale.

“When it’s completed, Sale Community Aged Care will have a total of 144 places. The 24 places to receive this Federal Government funding will be a significant boost to the care available locally for patients diagnosed with dementia,” Mr Chester said. “Signature Care has already been allocated federal funding for 120 residential aged care places.”

“The construction of Sale Community Aged Care has generated significant economic benefits for Sale, including for local suppliers and tradespeople. Once it’s operational, the community will see continued benefits, including new jobs and more business for service providers.

“Most importantly, locals needing residential care will be able to continue to live in the Sale area, close to their family and friends.”

Signature Care director Graeme Croft said the new $25 million facility would be complete in July with the first residents expected to arrive in early September.

“We expect the Sale Community Aged Care will create around 170 jobs, including positions for registered and enrolled nurses and personal carers,” Mr Croft said.

“There will also be catering and activities staff, along with hotel services and ancillary service staff to manage the cleaning, laundry and maintenance, so it will be a significant local employer.”
