Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed a boost to coronavirus testing capacity for people living in the Latrobe Valley.

Two additional testing rooms opened this week at the Latrobe Valley Respiratory Clinic in Morwell, bringing the number of rooms to six at the clinic in Princes Drive.

Mr Chester encouraged people to continue to get tested if they experienced any symptoms.

“Testing is one of the most powerful tools we have in our fight against the coronavirus,” Mr Chester said.

“It allows us to identify and isolate people with the virus and to identify their close contacts to help prevent the virus being spread through the community.

“This year has been a tough one for everyone, particularly for those who have contracted the virus or lost a loved one.”

Mr Chester said he was concerned by the reported reduction in testing rates over the past two weeks, both locally and state-wide.

“The number of reported infections is dropping, which is great news, but we must guard against becoming complacent,” Mr Chester said.

“Anyone experiencing mild symptoms must get tested, isolate at home until they receive their test results and then follow medical advice if their test is positive.”

The Latrobe Valley Respiratory Clinic is located at 185-189 Princes Drive, Morwell. It is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturdays 9am to 2pm. Appointments are needed and can be booked online at https://www.thcc.com.au/ or by phoning 5191 9321.

Testing is free and referrals are not required.
