Residents from Wilson Lodge have enjoyed their very first outing with Cycling Without Age Gippsland, taking in fresh air, sunshine and the simple joy of a shared community experience.
The local volunteer-run charity provides free trishaw rides for older people and those with limited mobility, helping residents reconnect with familiar surroundings and enjoy the feeling of the wind in their hair.
Last week’s ride marked a special milestone as Wilson Lodge residents joined the program for the first time, with smiles and happy chatter reflecting the positive impact of the initiative.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said programs like Cycling Without Age Gippsland play an important role in supporting wellbeing and social connection for older Australians.
“Cycling Without Age Gippsland is a wonderful example of community volunteers making a real difference in the lives of older residents,” Mr Chester said.
“These rides are about much more than getting outdoors; they help people reconnect with their community, share stories and enjoy meaningful moments together.
“It was fantastic to see Wilson Lodge residents take part for the first time, and I congratulate everyone involved in continuing to grow this valuable local service.”
Cycling Without Age Gippsland looks forward to welcoming Wilson Lodge as part of its regular monthly ride program in Sale, with demand for rides continuing to increase across the region.
The organisation is supported by dedicated volunteer pilots and community partners who help ensure older residents can remain connected, active and engaged.
