$100,000 FOR ANZAC CENTENARY PROJECTS: CHESTER

$100,000 has been allocated to Centenary of ANZAC projects across the region, according to Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.
Mr Chester said the funding will be delivered through the Federal Government’s ANZAC Centenary Local Grants Program.
Funding will support projects put forward by local community organisations which commemorate the service and sacrifice of Australian service men and women in World War I.
“The Centenary of ANZAC represents a hugely significant period in our nation’s history,” Mr Chester said.
“Every year on ANZAC Day, hundreds of thousands of Australian’s pay tribute to the sacrifice, bravery and spirit of those who have lost their lives in battle as well as those who have served and returned or remain involved in conflict and peacekeeping missions.
“The ANZAC Centenary Local Grants Program is an opportunity for local community groups in Gippsland to commemorate and honour their service and sacrifice in a variety of ways.”
Mr Chester said he was in the process of establishing an ANZAC Centenary Community Grants Committee for Gippsland.
“A committee will assess applications for funding and make recommendations about projects to be submitted to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs for consideration,” Mr Chester said.
“The committee’s role will be to ensure that proposals meet the eligibility and assessment criteria and that they represent community views.”
Applications to the ANZAC Centenary Local Grants Program can be submitted from May 31, 2013 and close on February 28, 2014, with funding available from July 1, 2013.
