Australia’s acting Prime Minister has taken a first-hand look at Sale’s new port precinct development.

Mr Truss made a visit to the Port of Sale precinct demolition site, during a tour of the electorate with Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester on Wednesday afternoon.

The Australian Government allocated $4.5 million under the National Stronger Regions Fund for the project, which has also received support from State Government, Wellington Shire Council and John Leslie Foundation.

Mr Chester said the visit was a great opportunity for the Minister responsible for the NSRF to see the work in progress.

“For too long the city of Sale has turned its back on its historic port and the Sale Cultural Hub development will become a new focal point for community life,” Mr Chester said.

“The new precinct will provide a public space which will re-establish Sale’s links to its waterways and the wider Gippsland Lakes, which is something to be celebrated.

“Ultimately, the new precinct will provide better services for local residents and create new jobs.

“Wellington Shire Councillors and staff have been fantastic advocates of the project and really led the way by bringing together funding from federal and state governments, and local community supporters.”
