Creating new jobs and expanding existing industries will be the focus of today’s visit to Gippsland by Acting Prime Minister Warren Truss.

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said he invited Mr Truss to the region to highlight regional development opportunities and progress on current federal government funded initiatives.

During the visit Mr Truss will officially open the redeveloped Latrobe Regional Airfield, inspect progress on the $260m Princes Highway duplication between Traralgon and Sale, receive a briefing on the MID2030 irrigation upgrade and tour the Port of Sale redevelopment with Wellington Shire Council.

“I will also take the opportunity to show Warren Truss the $185m redevelopment of the East Sale RAAF Base which has delivered significant economic development and jobs growth in the Gippsland region,” Mr Chester said.

“My number one priority is to support jobs growth in our region and it is important that senior ministers like Warren Truss get a first-hand appreciation of the projects that will require Federal Government support in the future.

“Warren has been a great supporter of infrastructure projects in Gippsland in the past and I will use today’s visit to demonstrate the results of that investment.”

Mr Truss will be visiting Gippsland in the capacity of acting Prime Minister while Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is attending important forums in Europe.
