Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has paid tribute to the outstanding work of Aunty Phyllis Andy at a retirement function in Lakes Entrance today.

In a speech to recognise her outstanding work in the community, Mr Chester described Aunty Phyllis as “East Gippsland royalty”.

“Aunty Phyllis has pursued both her paid and voluntary work with a quiet dignity, humility, determination and passion for the health and wellbeing of her community,” Mr Chester said.

“It is hard to measure the full extent of her contrition to Lakes Entrance and the wider Gippsland region.

“She has been a great unifier, often bringing people together to unite the aboriginal and white community on difficult issues.

“She has been a leader in every sense of the word and I wish her good health and happiness in retirement.”
