BREED STREET CLINIC TO UNDERGO $750,000 EXPANSION

May 27, 2013

A $750,000 expansion to the Breed Street Clinic in Traralgon will provide improved nursing facilities, medical training rooms and an improved after-hours consultation and waiting room area, according to Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.

Mr Chester has been supporting the project and pursued avenues of government funding with Practice Manager Peter Wallis after initial applications were rejected.

The building contracts have now been signed after the Commonwealth signed off on an agreement to provide Breed Street Clinic with $500,000 to get the project off the ground.

Mr Chester said it was pleasing to get a win for local health services which would benefit the whole community.

“The Breed Street Clinic expansion is a very worthwhile project as it supports improved medical training facilities and a greater range of services for the community,” Mr Chester said.

“The clinic’s board is happy with the result which has been over two years in the making.

“I look forward to seeing the expansion take shape and continuing to work with local health service providers to support projects which improve health outcomes within the community.”

Mr Wallis said construction of the project would begin soon and hopefully be completed by early October.

“We’ve appointed a local contractor in Leitner Constructions and expect the building process to be completed in approximately 19-20 weeks,” Mr Wallis said.

“We are moving our entire nursing area to the south side of the building and will provide an additional three workspaces taking our total number of nursing workspaces to five.

“A training room, medical student room and sterilising room have also been packaged into the redevelopment. We will also be able to provide better after-hours services with the new layout of the building and improved access for ambulances.”
