CANN RIVER P-12 COLLEGE LEADERS REWARDED

May 11, 2009

The leadership group from Cann River P-12 College received their badges from State and Federal Gippsland MPs during a recent assembly.

Leadership badges were presented by the Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester and the State Leader of The Nationals, Peter Ryan.

Cann River P-12 College Principal Nigel Royce introduced the students to the local politicians and school, house and bus captains were presented with their badges.

Mr Chester said he was pleased to award students who had shown leadership qualities and would now take a greater responsibility throughout school activities.

“Rewarding leadership qualities is a great way of giving students a greater understanding and sense of responsibility,” Mr Chester said.

“Giving more responsibility to students is also a way of ensuring the future and direction of our local communities.”

The Member for Eastern Victorian Region, Peter Hall and Member for Morwell Russell Northe were also present during the assembly and joined Mr Chester and Mr Ryan on a tour of the school grounds including the inspection of new art and science room facilities.

Mr Chester said the new facilities especially the science room was a fantastic addition to the school.

“It’s vital for the education of students from regional communities that smaller regional schools enjoy the same benefits as larger schools,” Mr Chester said.

“The new science room at Cann River P-12 College is one example where students from a small regional school won’t be disadvantaged as a result of their location.

“Providing quality facilities for educating students is vitally important and is something I will continue to pursue with the State and Federal Government at every opportunity.”
