Federal Defence Minister Senator David Johnston will make his first official visit to the East Sale RAAF Base when he visits Gippsland next week.
Minister Johnston will be in the region on Wednesday and Thursday at the invitation of local MP and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Darren Chester.
In addition to the RAAF Base visit, the Minister will also open new flight simulation facilities and meet with Wellington Shire Council to discuss future defence priorities.
“There is no better time for the Minister to visit the region with the $185 million redevelopment project underway at the East Sale RAAF Base,” Mr Chester said.
“It is an important project in terms of securing the base’s long-term future and also provides a significant boost in the economy.
“I’m looking forward to hosting the Minister and providing an update to local representatives on Defence priorities for the future.”
