FEDERAL MP DISCUSSES THE IMPORTANCE OF FINANCIAL ADVICE

June 9, 2010

The Financial Planning Association’s (FPA) Certified Financial Planner Professional Ambassador, Rodney Lavin and the Federal Member for Gippsland, Darren Chester have discussed the importance of financial advice.

Rodney Lavin, FPA Chapter Chair for Gippsland met with Mr Chester to discuss how the FPA is assisting members of the community with free financial advice.

As part of Financial Planning Week (FP Week), FPA members volunteered their time, for the third year in a row, to answer financial queries at no cost to consumers.

The special community initiative called Ask an Expert, is running from 24 May till 30 June 2010 and is an online service designed to give consumers an insight into the benefits of financial advice.

Australians are still able to submit financial questions to FPA members via email, and receive advice free of charge.

Almost 200 financial planners Australia wide, including regional and capital city areas, have offered their time to allow consumers to benefit from their professional advice services.

The FPA is excited to be able to give Australians a taste of expert financial advice free of charge. We believe all Australians deserve the peace of mind that comes from maximising their financial security.

This special offer is a great opportunity for consumers to seek advice and understand just how valuable it can be.

Consumers who access the ‘Ask an Expert’ service in Gippsland will be able to either select or be allocated a financial planner from their local area.

Mr Lavin CFP® said the FPA is dedicated to making sure consumers get valuable advice.

“We are very excited to be able to support the Gippsland community by offering financial advice at no cost. Many Australians still don’t have financial plans in place; this is a great opportunity to show how we can help to provide peace of mind,” Mr Lavin said.

Ask an Expert is a great initiative designed to give Australians an introduction to the benefits of financial planning advice and will help them to make more informed decisions about their financial matters. Where questions are asked which cannot be answered online, the FPA encourages Australians to seek the holistic services of a professional financial planner, who will set out to understand each client’s different needs and financial objectives and recommend an appropriate strategy.

So far, over 200 questions have been submitted by Australians looking to better their financial situation.
