Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has encouraged all past and present residents of Churchill to join in the town’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

The Churchill community will come alive on Sunday March 15 with a commemorative ceremony, plaque unveiling, barbecue and family activities. There will also be a combined church service.

Mr Chester last week paid tribute to the Churchill community in a speech to Parliament, recognising the town’s history since indigenous settlement through to modern times.

The township of Churchill was proclaimed by the Shire of Morwell on March 15, 1965.
