The Nationals Member for Gippsland, Darren Chester, has today invited the Governor-General and Prime Minister to visit the region and inspect fire affected areas.
Mr Chester said it was important that our nation’s leaders gained a first hand understanding of the challenge which lies ahead for communities rebuilding after the fires.
“I have asked both the Governor-General and the Prime Minister to travel to Gippsland as soon as possible and meet with communities which have been affected by these tragic fires” Mr Chester said.
“It is going to take an enormous effort to rebuild our communities and it is essential that we have bipartisan support in the weeks and months ahead.”
Several political leaders have visited the region including Opposition Leader, Malcolm Turnbull and Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard.
