Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester (pictured) is predicting a new boom for Omeo with the creation of a multi-million dollar network of mountain bike trails.
“For the high country towns which boomed in the gold rush, the ‘Lycra rush’ should be a boost for sustainable local jobs in the future,” Mr Chester said.
“This is a project which has attracted support from all levels of government and there’s a lot of work underway on the trails as the crew from ‘Common Ground’ make the most of the good weather.
“It will be a huge boost to the visitor economy and encourage year-round tourism and we’re already seeing new business investments to support the growth in accommodation and hospitality.”
